I don't drink alcohol or coffee, but maybe I'll have another stint of "no sugar" and see how I go with that. Coke Zero is my main vice, particularly a cold one in Summer (which is coming up), so maybe I'll wait until next Winter.

A good friend of mine told me a few years ago that he estimated spending $5000 a year on alcohol, and was envious of me for not drinking and stashing away that money (in fairness, I spend too much money buying nice tea even if that's an extremely tiny fraction of what alcohol costs). For me, it has never been a matter of money and always a matter of health and happiness. It's nice to see other reporting the same benefits.

Having coffee, drinking, smoking and similar habits have solely been picked up to relieve ourself of everyday boredom.
On another thought, they are utterly meaningless besides 'bringing people together' or in other words being a reason to come together to pursue the actual reason why we wanted to come together in the first place. Apparently we can't just tell people why we want to interact with them, instead it has to be masked by a ubiquitous task like drinking coffee or having a drink.

I came across your article on a whim and I am glad I did.
I don't know if you gave up alcohol because you needed to or because you wanted to, (I needed to) but either way, I am also 15 months sober as of April 11 and reading about someone else's experience is comforting in a way. It can be a lonely way of life at times.

However, even when I'm lonely, I'm sober.
and for that I am extremely grateful.

Go to the good places where sober persons go.

You don’t really go out anymore. It’s exhausting to explain again and again why you don’t drink and NO also one drink is not okay.
When a group of people asks me to join them for drinks, I mostly default to answer with NO because I just don’t want to deal with gossip as a sober person.
