- When the kids turned 16, we bought each a car. The first one learned what that meant. As the tow truck pulled a once “new” car into the driveway, my oldest proclaimed: “Dad, it is a wreck!” I said, “Yes, but a 1965 Mustang fastback wreck. Here are the repair manuals. Tools are in the garage.

This is just so inspiring! It doesn't mean that I desire a large family, rather reading it from a child's perspective, it explains to me, why my parents brought me up the way they did, with a set of values. So hells yes to this kind of parenting.

Shared January 17, 2017

This gives me clarity and inspires me. Not inspiring in the sense that I want a large family, rather if I look at it from a child's perspective, I understand why my parents brought me up the way they did, with their own value system, making me do my chores while ensuring I dont neglect my studies at the same time. So hells yes to this kind of parenting.

If children would come home and say that a teacher hated them or was not fair, our response was that you need to find a way to get along. You need find a way to learn the material because in real life, you may have a boss that does not like you.

We would not enable children to “blame” the teacher for not learning, but place the responsibility for learning the material back on the child

I think if I had read this 30 years ago, I would have done some things differently with my kids. I'm not saying I'd do all of this, but there are some good lessons here. So, consider it my young adult friends whom are embarking or will embark on parenthood - see if any of this rings true for what you want to teach.
